We’re helping 100 Jewish households electrify and save – are you in?

Why Now?

The cost of living is biting.

Energy bills are rising, gas prices are unpredictable. We’re all trying to make smarter financial decisions — and that includes for our homes.

Electrification is the smart response.

Replacing gas appliances with electric alternatives can save households up to $5,000 a year. It’s better for our wallets, better for our health, and better for the environment.

Now is the best time to electrify.

Government rebates and incentives on household electrification abound, making these upgrades more accessible. Additionally, a new range of low- and zero-interest loan schemes – specifically for household electrification – promises to slash upfront costs. But it’s unclear how long these rebates and loans will last.

That’s where JCN’s It’s Time comes in.

The Jewish Climate Network is your community. We’re here to help you get the facts, understand the steps, and seamlessly organise your electrification installs — all in the name of building a cleaner, more resilient, more affordable and resilient Jewish shtetl.

Also, the information “out there” is confusing. Everyone’s trying to sell you something. And most of us don’t know who to trust.

What is home electrification?

Home electrification is the process of transitioning a home to use electricity as its single source of energy. It replaces fossil fuel based energy sources, like polluting gas, for efficient electric alternatives.

Appliances typically upgraded from gas to electric include;

  • Gas hot water systems to efficient hot water heat pumps

  • Gas cooktops to efficient induction cooktops

  • Gas heating systems to efficient reverse cycle heating & cooling

Coupled with clean energy like solar & battery, a home can be carbon neutral in operation, highly efficient, and far more affordable in the long term.

How will it work?

Electrifying your home can feel overwhelming. We’re making it simple and personal. Here’s how It’s Time works, in two easy phases:

Phase 1:   Learn

  • Join a relaxed, home-hosted electrfication conversation with a friendly host.
  • Access our streamlined electrification resources, tips and checklists.
  • Understand your options — zero pressure, zero jargon.

Phase 2:   Electrify

  • If you wish to continue, we connect you with our trusted partner Goodbye Gas, who will conduct an in-home consult (virtually or in person).
  • You’ll receive a tailored electrification plan.
  • Goodbye Gas manages the process from start to finish — organising installers & appliances and managing timelines. Easy.

Our Partner: Goodbye Gas

JCN has partnered with a local electrification provider, Goodbye Gas.

A family business founded by a Melbourne-based electrician, GG are a single point of contact for all your home electrification needs, so you don’t have to waste precious hours and brain cells researching and calling installers and providers.

Either an in-home or virtual visit, GG will go through your gas appliances, understand your preferences and priorities and recommend efficient electric alternatives that suit your situation and budget.

After the consultation, they will prepare an electrification plan specific to your home. The plan includes specifications and a quotation complete with all available rebates.

Consults are at a discounted JCN price of $100 (in-home for VIC) or $50 (virtual for NSW), which will be deducted from you installation cost should you move to the next stage.

Once you're ready to go, the Goodbye Gas team will order your appliances and coordinate their expert installers to deliver your electric upgrades as quickly and efficiently as possible.

They take care of the hard parts like coordinating multiple trades, and have your upgrades delivered as seamlessly as possible.

GG have access to high-quality appliances at wholesale prices to ensure you get a fair deal. There are no hidden costs here.

The Goodbye Gas team are available to answer any questions about your new electric appliances. If you’ve said goodbye to your last gas appliance they will also guide you through the process of removing your gas meter.

They can also provide advice on switching your electricity supply to 100% GreenPower, or installing solar, to ensure your home is supporting Australia's transition to renewable energy.

Resources and Fact Sheets

  • Renters face unique challenges, but there are still options for electrification!

We can help you explore portable solutions and share tips on talking to your landlord about upgrades that could benefit both of you. Even small steps can make a big difference.

Shoot us an email at hello@jcn.org.au and we’ll send through a resource.

  • That’s absolutely fine. Electrification is a journey, not a sprint. Goodbye Gas will work with you to prioritise – whether it’s your hot water system, heating, or stove – based on what’s most urgent, affordable, and impactful for your household. Once you are financially ready to progress on your electrification journey with a second or third appliance, GG will be there to coordinate the install.

  • Yes — but savings depend on your situation.

The more energy your home uses, the more you stand to save over time. And the more of that energy is sourced from electricity, you save even further.

Replacing older, inefficient appliances brings the biggest gains.

    • Heating upgrades (like switching to reverse-cycle air conditioning) offer major savings.

    • Adding an EV can slash thousands off annual fuel bills.

    • Induction cooking saves less overall, but still adds comfort and efficiency.

Even starting with one appliance helps set you up for bigger savings later.

  • Electrify first!

If your home is still running on gas, solar panels won’t deliver their full savings potential. By electrifying appliances first — especially your heating and hot water — you will be primed to soak up rooftop solar energy when the time comes to install panels, and slash your bills even further.

A battery can also supercharge your savings, but it’s not the first step for most households given its high upfront costs.
